Quick answer

Concrete slab contractors in Lillington work between two permit counters in the same town, the Town's Planning and Inspections office and Harnett County Central Permitting. Fayetteville Concrete Pros, a local slab contractor, pours garage, shop and shed slabs at $7 to $12 per sq ft, and the first job is finding out which counter your lot answers to. Free written estimate.

Two permit counters in one county seat

Lillington is the Harnett County seat, so the town and the county both keep offices here. The Town's Planning and Inspections department enforces the NC State Building Code inside the corporate limits and the extraterritorial jurisdiction, the ETJ. Harnett County Central Permitting, also in Lillington, handles septic, E911 addressing, the fire marshal and its own inspections.

Which office owns your floor depends on where the parcel sits, and the mailbox won't tell you. Read the Town's inspections page and the county's Central Permitting page, then phone whichever one you reach first and ask it to confirm your parcel in writing. If you're outside both the limits and the ETJ, ask Central Permitting who covers you. Our permits guide shows how the counties around Fayetteville split this work.

What the Town's permit list says about garage and shed floors

The Town's Residential Construction Permit covers new houses, additions, renovations, attached and detached garages, storage buildings, decks and screened porches. Driveways, patios and bare slabs aren't named on that list. A garage or shop floor is part of a building, so plan on the permit. A loose pad with nothing on it is the Town's call, and the FAQ on its permit page says to contact the Planning Technician when you're unsure.

Do that with your address and a sketch before anyone books a truck. Electrical, mechanical and plumbing work gets a separate trade permit, which matters the day your new garage picks up a subpanel or a floor drain. The Town also asks for next-day inspection requests by 2 PM. A pour that follows an inspection needs that request in by 2 PM the day before, so the concrete order waits on the inspector, never the other way around.

Floors for sheds, shops and garages are priced by the square foot, $7 to $12 per sq ft on a reinforced pour. These sizes come straight from that range, and smaller shed pads hit a job minimum.

ProjectSizePer sq ftWhat it comes to
Lawn tractor and tool shed pad12x20 (240 sq ft)$7 to $12$1,680 to $2,880
Workshop floor20x20 (400 sq ft)$7 to $12$2,800 to $4,800
Two-car garage add-on24x24 (576 sq ft)$7 to $12$4,032 to $6,912
Garage plus a workbench bay24x30 (720 sq ft)$7 to $12$5,040 to $8,640

Stone base on filled ground, thickened edges, a longer apron out to the street and tear-out of an old pad change the total. Every price is confirmed in a free written estimate after we see the site.

Fuquay and Norfolk sand, plus the old pits and fill

A federal soil survey sample of 40 points inside town limits found Fuquay loamy sand and Norfolk loamy sand at six points each. Both drain well, and a floor on either one stays dry if the base is tight. The same sample put Aycock silt loam, a clayey Nason soil on a steep slope and Wagram sand in the mix, so one side of town is not the other side of town.

Three of the 40 points landed on Pits-Dumps ground, which means mined or filled land. Fill is where floors crack. The NC amendment to the residential code says slab fill must be free of vegetation and compacted, and unless the inspector approves otherwise the depth tops out at 24 inches of clean sand or gravel and 8 inches of earth. Washed #57 or #67 stone can go up to 4 feet without a compaction test. We look at the ground at the estimate walk. If it shows fill, we price stone and ask your inspector what proof of compaction they want before the forms go in.

Cape Fear bottoms, Poorhouse Creek and the flood map

The Cape Fear River crosses the northern part of town, and Poorhouse Creek starts on the southwest end. In the 40-point sample, three points sat in FEMA Zone AE and one in the 0.2 percent annual chance area, and two points were mapped Roanoke loam, which floods occasionally. A sample isn't a ruling on your parcel, but it's enough to look before you pour.

Type your address into the state's flood risk lookup. The Town's planning department enforces flood plain rules along with zoning, so if you land in a mapped zone, call Planning before anyone hauls in fill. Raising a floor changes where the water goes on the neighbor's side, and that's where problems start.

Out of the flood area, the rule is simpler: set the finished floor a few inches above the surrounding grade, slope the yard away on all four sides and send the downspouts past the edge of the pour.

Adding a bay beside a house built around 2005

Census figures put the median Lillington house at a 2005 build, with a median value of $247,200 and about 63 percent of households owning. If yours is one of the newer builds and you're adding a shop bay or a second garage, measure the existing garage floor height before anything else. The new floor should meet the old one at a door threshold you can roll a cart over, and the overhead door sill decides how much slope you can give the floor toward the opening.

US 401 runs down Main Street through the center of town, and any apron that meets a state road goes through the local NCDOT District Engineer's office. NCDOT charges no application fee. Plan around four weeks or less for a simple request. Our Lillington driveway page covers the apron side, and the foundation page covers a floor that carries framed walls.

Which slab types we install, from garage bays to ball courts

The floors we pour in the county seat fall into a short list. We install garage floor slabs, floors for pole barns and workshops, equipment and utility pads, basketball and sport court slabs, and shed or storage building pads.

A sport court wants a wide, level surface with water running off it. A utility pad can be small and plain. A barn floor has to carry tires and gear. Describe the load and the footprint on the call, and the estimate follows what that floor will actually do.

How to compare concrete slab contractors in Lillington

Before you call, mark the footprint on the lot, note the distance to each property line and write down where the downspouts, the well or septic and the nearest hose bib sit. Digging needs a call to NC 811 first. Then ask each of the concrete slab contractors in Lillington the same four questions: who talks to the Town and who talks to the county, how the base gets compacted, what thickness and mix strength are on the written estimate, and whether the bid includes control joints and the apron.

Fayetteville Concrete Pros is insured and locally owned, with 40+ years of experience, and the slab service page walks through a job from estimate to cure. Town-wide questions live on the town page. Call (910) 996-0343 or use the contact page and we'll set up a free written estimate after we see the site.

  • David and his team are really hard workers. They did an excellent job at my house. They had to do a front pathway/stairwell. I showed him what I wanted and next day they were here with machines at 8am working. They worked 8-8pm until the framing and shaping was finished. The cement job took them 5-6hrs with staining and stamping. Really fast, good job, great Price and good people. I recommend them to anyone.

  • We recently hired Fayetteville Concrete Professionals to pour a new driveway and walkway for our home, and I genuinely couldn’t be happier with the entire experience. From the first phone call, their team was professional, down-to-earth, and clearly knew their craft. They showed up on time, answered every question I had (even the ones I thought were silly), and delivered results that totally exceeded our expectations. The crew worked hard, kept the area clean, and made sure everything was level and polished β€” they even helped us think through some design choices we hadn’t considered. It’s rare these days to find concrete contractors in Fayetteville who truly take pride in their work and treat your project like it’s their own home. If you’re comparing concrete companies in Fayetteville, save yourself the stress β€” just go with these guys. 10/10 would recommend.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which office do I call first for a garage floor in Lillington?
Call the Town's Planning and Inspections office if your lot is inside the limits or the ETJ. Harnett County Central Permitting is also in town and handles the county side, so if the Town says you're outside its area, take that answer over there. Ask for the answer in writing so you have it when the inspector shows up.
Does a bare slab with no building on it need a permit here?
The Town's residential permit list names garages, storage buildings, decks and porches. It doesn't name a loose slab or a patio, and its FAQ says to contact the Planning Technician if you're unsure. We'd call before pouring, since a floor that later gets walls on it is a building.
Is filled ground a problem for a shop floor in Lillington?
It can be. A soil survey sample inside town found Pits-Dumps ground, which is mined or filled land. The NC residential code limits fill under a slab to 24 inches of clean sand or gravel, or 8 inches of earth, unless the inspector approves more, and the fill must be compacted. We check at the estimate walk.
How do I find out whether my Lillington lot is in a flood zone?
Enter the address in the state's flood risk lookup, then call Town Planning if the lot shows a mapped zone. The Cape Fear River crosses the north part of town and some map units along creeks flood. Don't add fill or raise a floor in a mapped zone until Planning has weighed in.
When do I schedule the inspection before a pour?
The Town asks for next-day inspection requests by 2 PM. Work back from your pour date: the forms, base and reinforcing go in first, the request goes in the afternoon before, and the concrete truck gets booked only when the inspector's time is set. If you hire a crew, ask who books it.
Can concrete slab contractors in Lillington match a new floor to my older garage?
Yes, if we measure first. We shoot the existing floor height, door threshold and slope, then set the new forms so the two meet without a lip. Joint lines get cut to land where the old ones fall. The match is easier to plan than to fix after the pour, so have us walk it before you decide on size.
